Overview of the Principle of Heat Treatment Equipment
Category: Industry Trends
Release time: 2025-04-28
Overview Metal heat treatment is a process in which metal workpieces are heated to an appropriate temperature in a specific medium, held at that temperature for a certain period of time, and then cooled at varying rates. This process controls the properties of the metal material by altering its microstructure—either on the surface or within the bulk. Principle Metal heat treatment is one of the crucial processes in mechanical manufacturing. Compared with other machining processes, heat treatment generally does not alter the shape of the workpiece nor its overall chemical composition. Instead, it modifies the microstructure inside the workpiece or changes the chemical composition of its surface, thereby imparting or enhancing the workpiece’s service performance. A key feature of heat treatment is that it improves the intrinsic quality of the workpiece—quality that typically cannot be observed with the naked eye. To ensure that metal workpieces possess the desired mechanical, physical, and chemical properties, in addition to the proper selection of materials and various forming processes, heat treatment processes are often indispensable. Steel is the most widely used material in the machinery industry. Due to its complex microstructure, steel’s properties can be precisely controlled through heat treatment; thus, heat treatment of steel constitutes the primary focus of metal heat treatment. Moreover, metals such as aluminum, copper, magnesium, and titanium, as well as their alloys, can also have their mechanical, physical, and chemical properties altered through heat treatment, enabling them to achieve diverse performance characteristics. Heat Treatment Furnace A heat treatment furnace is equipment used to carry out various heat treatment processes on workpieces, including annealing, tempering, quenching, and heating.
